Dear Visitor, Team Behind

WE, AT WILDREACH ENDEAVOUR TO KEEP THE INFORMATION ON THIS SITE UPDATED AND CURRENT. IF YOU NOTICE ANY ERRORS ON THIS SITE PLEASE DO CONTACT US. THANK YOU.

Some years ago, our Head of Operations, Nilupul, came up with an unusual idea stemming from his passion for reptiles. No-one had yet thought of it, but it seemed an impossible task to build a website covering the complete class of Reptilia found in Sri Lanka. However, in 2005 he managed to create the fantastic website, www.srilankareptiles.com . The site succeeded in capturing the attention of many local and foreign students who were full of praise for his achievement. Spurred on by this interest, he decided to expand the site to make it a definitive guide to reptiles in Sri Lanka, including classifications, photographs, and information on breeding habits, food, behaviour and distribution.

Later, he found a small group of people who shared his interest and enthusiasm in wildlife and who were keen to assist him in his endeavour: to make the website something truly extraordinary. We completed the site and it was successfully launched in 2009 by Champika Ranawake, the Hon. Chairman of the Vienna Convention.  It became the first comprehensive account of the class of Reptilia, providing vast amounts of information, unparalled by any other site. This was the birth of Wildreach www.wildreach.com; a database of Sri Lanka’s wildlife.

The main objectives of Wildreach are to:

  • Collect data about fauna
  • Publish that data in an appropriate manner
  • Educate via the internet as above and through other media
  • Where it is within our capability, take action for environmental issues
